Compare Two Mandarin Sounds
A targeted listening tool for comparing difficult Mandarin initials and finals side by side with tone audio.
Target weak hearing points
Compare Two Sounds lets students select two initials, two finals, or an initial and a final. After two sounds are selected, the interface changes from selection mode to listening mode.
In listening mode, the two sounds are displayed side by side with tone one at the top through tone four at the bottom. Students can tap either side and any tone to hear the sounds right next to each other. Arrows allow the learner to cycle through blend options associated with each sound.
This is built for targeted listening: if a learner struggles to hear the difference between c and t, they can compare those sounds directly and replay clean audio as many times as needed.
